Depression and Aloneness

We’ve all been there at some point – experiencing that feeling of loss, helplessness, or sadness that creeps up on us. Sometimes it’s over in a couple of hours. Sometimes it last for days. Often there doesn’t seem to be an explanation as to why it happens, but those who have experienced severe, debilitating depression know that it is real.

It is important that if a person experiences depression over and over, and it’s affecting their emotional well-being, it’s time to seek help. You don’t have to suffer alone.

Find a counselor that you feel comfortable with, someone you feel is truly listening to you.  Treat your search as an interview. Is the person you are seeking help from qualified to help YOU specifically? Visit several counselors. If you don’t feel a relationship developing, find someone else. You should feel confident when sharing with your counselor.

Never let an emotional problem rule your life. If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, please seek help:

  • Do you feel hopeless or helpless?
  • Do you often think negatively?
  • Are you feeling tired or have lack of energy?
  • Difficulty concentrating?
  • Do you become angry easily?
  • Sleep problems?
  • Loss of interest in activities you used to enjoy?
  • Do you carry guilt, worthlessness, or self-hate?
  • Have you thought of taking your own life?

Any of the above may suggest you need help from a professional. Don’t put it off. There are counselors available who will help you sort through the maze of depression.
